Greater sensitivity towards the environment and quality of products has meant that in the last ten years the organic market has experienced an impressive growth, going from a niche choice of a handful independent producers to a consolidated spending habit by many consumers.

The natural response to this strong market demand has been a greater availability of organic products, even by way of large-scale distribution. Hence the commitment of food companies to invest in this sector through the launch of new lines under organic brands.

WORLDWIDE OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIC MARKET

The positive trend is confirmed by data that emerged from the statistical directory published by the IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements): it shows that the world organic market has a turnover of 106 billion Euro and is supported by more than 3 million producers worldwide. The organic market is constantly growing; between 2018 and 2019, organically cultivated land increased by 1.6% (equivalent to 1.1 million hectares), reaching a total of 72.3 million hectares around the world.

The top three global markets by sales are the United States (42% of the global market and a 44.7 billion Euro turnover), the European Union (39% of the market and 41.4 billion Euro revenues), and China (8% of the global market and 8.5 billion Euro revenues).

EUROPEAN REGULATIONS ON ORGANIC PRODUCTION

The European Union legislation on organic farming, such as REGULATION (EC) No. 889/2008, guarantees a high level of safety at all stages of the production and distribution of food products marketed in Europe. The regulations in place are intended to meet consumer demand for reliable organic products, while also creating a fair market for producers, distributors and retailers.

The absence of derivatives from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), preservatives, artificial additives and pesticides is one of the cornerstones of European legislation on organic products; as a result, all companies wishing to produce organic foods must only use raw materials that comply with regulations, staying within the limits of the law regarding the presence of unauthorised ingredients.

THE NEW AEB ENZYMES FOR ORGANIC PRODUCTIONS

Our new enzymes are GMO-FREE certified by accredited European laboratories, and naturally free of preservatives such as sorbate and benzoate, which have been replaced with permitted preservatives, such as sodium chloride.

The new enzymes that make up the organic line are:

  • ENDOZYM Cellofruit IF: product based on pectinase and cellulase, designed to promote the hydrolysis of complex polysaccharides in all processes, to include the production of plant based milk and in all sectors requiring fruit maceration and purée manufacturing.
  • ENDOZYM Alphamyl PF NaCl: formulation containing high-concentration thermostable alpha-amylase which, thanks to its exceptional resistance to high temperatures, allows the full liquefaction of starch and the reduction of viscosity during gelatinisation. It is widely used in all starch processing steps, and, of course, in beer brewing.
  • ENDOZYM XLC: compound based on cellulase and xylanase, which allows the complete degradation of cellulose and hemicelluloses. For this reason, it is of great help in the production of fruit juices, to enhance the use of peels and increase the efficiency of extraction from all plant substrates.
