GENETIC ANALYSIS FOR THE DETECTION OF CONTAMINATION IN WINE

Thanks to modern DNA amplification techniques, it is possible to identify specific micro-organisms in an extremely short time compared to classical methods based on microbiological analysis with plates, and also compared to PCR-based techniques, which require large equipment, specialised laboratory staff and longer incubation times.

We have developed a real-time genetic detection device, Icgene, whose operation is based on the amplification of specific DNA sequences using the LAMP (Loop-mediated isothermal amplification) technique applied directly to food samples. This technique combines: simplicity of execution and interpretation of data; rapidity of test execution; high specificity and sensitivity.

This device finds its use in multiple fields of application, and to nowadays AEB has developed kits for the wine industry for the detection of Brettanomyces bruxellensis. Amplifications of these sequences are converted into a fluorescent signal, which reveals contamination. In about half an hour, the result can be obtained. The device reveals the results of the analysis on a tablet, which is an integral part of the equipment. The system also archives all analyses in a cloud-system, allowing the user to have a complete history.
