FAQ

• HOW DO YOU DISTINGUISH A QUALITY FILTER SHEET?

  By the standard of quality of the raw materials: if poor quality raw materials are used, then the final filtration result will often also be poor, with loss of product due to dripping and loss of colour. DANMIL depth filters are made of finely fibrillated cellulose fibres of broadleaf trees and conifers, kieselguhr and perlite at different concentrations. These are natural, first choice and particularly pure materials, carrying a cationic charge which defines the quality of the filter sheet.

• HOW ARE FILTER SHEETS USED?

  How to use:

  • - do not use damaged or modified filter sheets;
  • -handle filter sheets with extreme care when positioning them in the filter press, avoiding impacts, bending and abrasions.

  On first filtration:

  • - wash the filter sheets with water at a speed of 1.5 times that of filtration (if this has not already been done after sterilization).
  • -solutions with a high alcohol content, as well as products which cannot be washed with water, must be flushed around the circuit. The solution must then be disposed of.

• HOW ARE FILTER SHEETS STERILIZED?

  (Optional step)
  DANMIL depth filters must be sterilised with hot water or saturated steam at a maximum temperature of 134°C. It is necessary to loosen the compressed filter pack slightly and make sure that the complete sterilization of the entire filter system is carried out. Important: final compression should only be performed after the filter pack has cooled down.
  

  • STERILIZATION WITH VERY HOT WATER

    (the flow rate must correspond to at least the speed used during filtration and the water must be demineralised and free from impurities)

    Temperature: 85°
    Duration: 30 minutes, after the temperature has reached 85°C on all the valves
    Pressure: at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) at the filter outlet.

  • STEAM STERILISATION
    (the steam must be free from impurities)

    Max. temperature 134°C (saturated steam)
    Duration approx. 20 minutes after the steam starts to be released from all the filter valves
    Washing 50 L/m² at a speed of 1.5 times that of the flow after sterilisation.

• HOW SHOULD PRESSURE DIFFERENCES BE MANAGED?

  Depending on the standard operating mode, filtration must be terminated when the maximum pressure difference allowed of 300 kPa (3 bar) is reached. To work in absolute safety, a pressure difference of 150 kPa (1.5 bar) must not be exceeded during filtration, for the retention of microorganisms.

• HOW SHOULD THE FILTER SHEETS BE STORED AND PRESERVED?

  The depth filtration sheets are made from highly absorbent materials, so:

  • - they must be handled with care during transportation and storage in the warehouse;
  • - they must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place, free from odours;
  • - they must not be exposed to direct sunlight;
  • - they are intended for immediate use and must be used within 36 months from the date of production.

• CAN I REGENERATE MY FILTER SHEETS?

  The performance of DANMIL filters can be increased by regenerating and backwashing them with demineralised water. This helps to significantly reduce the cost of filtration.

• HOW MANY FILTER SHEETS SHOULD I USE?

  The minimum ideal filtration uses about 30 sheets.

• HOW MANY FILTERS ARE THERE IN A PACK?

  One box contains 100 filter sheets, packed in sterile packs of 25.
